In 2008, the Art on Wheels Corporation was founded and joined forces with the Arts and Humanities Council of Southwest Louisiana to sponsor the, soon to be, annual 'Art on Wheels' event. 'Art on Wheels' is based on an idea to take art 'out of the box'. Art has, for the most part, been thought of as watercolors or canvas artwork. We wanted the public to see art from our point of view. Graphic designs on a motorcycle, woodworking, pottery, ironwork, jewelry, all of these items conceived and then created are hand crafted by some of our local artists in this area & surrounding communities. We welcome all forms of art, even skin art or tattooing. This show is an opportunity to combine several diverse groups of people, of all ages, together. Our first effort was greeted with overwhelming community support and was attended by over one thousand spectators, sponsors, exhibitors and entrants.
Our third-annual 'Art on Wheels' event will be held at the Lake Charles Civic Center, due to the growing success, on October 23-24, 2010. All proceeds of this event will go to the Special Olympics of South West Louisiana and Buddy Ball & Arts of the surrounding parishes. With last year's event turn-out, we are expecting 2,000 participants, sponsors, volunteers, and entrants. Individuals from many surrounding areas attend and are encouraged to enter their motorcycles, hot rods, rat rods, golf carts, and kids motorized vehicles to be judged by a panel and awards given on Sunday the 24th. There will also be children's activities (including, but not limited to, face painting, fun jumps, pie eating contests, and a tug-o-war contest) Food and beverages will be sold throughout the event by local vendors and local bands will perform all day on Saturday, the 23rd.
